Technology optimist

This week is all about Grok Bot. There's a livestream called Grok Bot Galaxy - they're building a company from scratch in three days, live. Today is Day 3. Impressive stuff.

Grok Bot was incredibly helpful during a Zoom call with my accountant this morning. I could ask "him" - in this case my Finance Bot; often it's my Chief of Staff Bot - a question mid-meeting like "where did those capital gains come from?", and a few seconds later a well-formatted spreadsheet landed in my Dropbox answering exactly that.

This AI wave is moving extremely fast. It's difficult to keep up with, but I'm optimistic. I tell my wife and daughter I'm a "technology optimist" - a nod to David Friedberg, who declared "I'm a techno optimist" in a 2024 Science Corner segment on the All-In Podcast. My daughter now quotes me on it - air quotes with her hands, eyes rolling - having learned last year that AI consumes too much fresh water.

My bet: our global standard of living is simply going to keep improving at a rapid rate. And whatever comes, I feel like I have my feet under me a bit more by attempting to understand and use these tools, versus being afraid of what might unfold.
